SportsDirect Inc. named among top employers again, this time for Atlantic Canada

Halifax, January 16, 2012

SportsDirect Inc., a global leader in providing live scores, news, fantasy games, photos and cutting-edge media services, has been named one of Atlantic Canada’s best employers for 2012 by Eluta.ca and the editors of Canada’s Top 100 Employers.

The announcement comes on the heels of SDI being named one of Nova Scotia’s top employers in November.

Eight criteria were used to independently research and determine the winners, which included physical workplace, work and social atmosphere, health and family benefits, vacation time, employee communications, performance management, training and skills development and community involvement.

“Along with competitive salaries, we have a fantastic benefits plan that includes a great pension plan and bonus structure,” says Human Resources manager Susan Rossong. “We also offer things like flex hours and telecommuting. But the office culture is really the best part about working here and most of our employees will tell you that.”

On a typical summer day at SDI you’ll see most of its 50 fulltime staff members and 80 part-timers working in flip flops and t-shirts. Take a walk down to the spacious common area that overlooks Bayers Lake and you’re likely to find someone working out in the full gym, playing Xbox on the big screen TV or sliding stones down the table in an office shuffleboard tournament.

“It’s the best place I’ve ever worked,” says Mike McKay, a Product Manager who’s been with the company since 2005. “I’m not sure where else you could work where you’re encouraged to play fantasy football, watch sports and stay logged on to Facebook. Sometimes you have to pinch yourself a little bit.”
