Why is SportsDirect Inc. changing its brand name to Gracenote?
Gracenote acquired both SportsDirect Inc. and Infostrada Sports in May 2015. Gracenote is respected around the world as a global leader in entertainment data and technology and has a powerful brand in the U.S. and around the globe. Changing our name to Gracenote and operating as a single brand will make it easier to integrate products and operations with Gracenote and communicate with customers, partners and the public.
SportsDirect Inc. and Infostrada Sports will form the foundation of the new Gracenote Sports business. Combining the data catalogues of both SportsDirect Inc. and Infostrada Sports makes Gracenote the first true global sports data provider, with coverage for the world’s top events, leagues, teams and players. In addition, this move now positions Gracenote as the only global provider of data for the most pervasive and popular forms of entertainment – Music, Movies, TV and Sports.

Gracenote has great experience in data collection and management and has built a world-class data platform that can scale to millions of users with some of the world’s biggest customers, from Apple and Google to BMW and Mercedes. In addition to forming the foundation for the new Gracenote Sports business, there are opportunities for collaboration with Gracenote's parent company. Tribune Media is one of the largest local broadcast groups in the United States reaching more than 50 million U.S. households through its 42 TV stations. In sports, Tribune Media broadcasts NFL games to 22 TV markets and the MLB, NBA and NHL in key local markets, and has dedicated sports reporters across its many local stations.
What does this acquisition mean for current SportsDirect Inc. customers?
It’s business as usual. Our Halifax office and team will be offering the same expert service and support that you have grown accustomed to. The integration of the two companies will enable us to expand our coverage area internationally, deepen our database and deliver the best possible data products for our customers to match their specific needs.
When do these changes take place?
The changes are taking place immediately. Gracenote, SportsDirect Inc. and Infostrada Sports have already started to bring together the systems and processes necessary to run the combined organization.
Will my contacts’ email addresses change?
Yes. All SportsDirect Inc. staff is moving over to the @gracenote.com standard email address. However, the legacy SportsDirect Inc. email addresses will automatically redirect to the new Gracenote addresses.
